PETER AND THE WOLF

Esta semana vamos a ver esta obra clásica escrita para niños.

Peter and the Wolf is a commissioned work created to help children to study music during the first years of school. With it Prokofiev got to write a wonderful piece full of imagination!

The composer liked the commission so much, that he wrote it in just four days. He did not only wrote it for children, but he also created a musical tale for all ages that shows the different instruments of the orchestra, so we can listen to it with the rest of our family.

The composer not only shows the sound of the instruments, he goes a little further, and associates each instrument of the orchestra with a character in the story: we have the innocent child, the grumpy grandfather, the not very brave hunters, etc. I included all of them in the following list:

•      Peter, the young and innocent protagonist of the story is going to be played by the string instruments.

•      The bird, as it could not be otherwise, will be the flute.

•      The duck is represented by the oboe and the theme reflects perfectly the character's cowardice.

•      The grandfather, gentle but grumpy is the bassoon.

•      The cat, the clarinet playing the trick.

•      The wolf is represented by three french horns that growl at us from the bottom of the orchestra.

•      The timpani and the bass drum anticipate the quite cowardly hunters, they’re at least considerably less brave than the intrepid Pedro.

This work is composed for symphony orchestra and a narrator, he would be the one who will guide us wonderfully through this story.
